You may have noticed that our Double Chocolate Gelato now costs a little more — both at our kiosks and in our online shop. We want to explain why, and thank you for your understanding.
At the kiosks, each scoop of Double Chocolate is now 30p extra. On our website, the 125ml tub has increased by 30p, and the 500ml tub is now £7.50.
We know price increases aren’t ideal — and this wasn’t a decision we made lightly. But we’re committed to making award-winning gelato using the very best ingredients. And for our Double Chocolate, that means rich, high-quality chocolate that lives up to its name.
Last year, our Double Chocolate Gelato won three stars at the Great Taste Awards — the highest possible rating. To keep it that good, we need exceptional chocolate. But recently, the cost of chocolate has soared. Cocoa prices jumped from under $2,000 per tonne to over $8,000, and even peaked at $10,000. While they’ve come down slightly, prices are still very high.
Why? A combination of poor harvests, climate change, and commodity market speculation. Sadly, none of that makes chocolate any cheaper.
So we had a choice: reduce the quality, use less chocolate, shrink the tubs — or slightly increase the price. We chose to keep the quality high, because we believe that’s what really matters.
