Gold for the White Stuff: Our Mint Choc Chip Wins at the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards
We're delighted to share some rather wonderful news. Our Mint Choc Chip Gelato has just been awarded a Gold at the Farm Shop & Deli Show Product Awards 2026 — making us the only ice cream in the entire competition to take home the top prize.
This year saw a record number of entries, judged by a panel of industry specialists. Which makes it all the more satisfying that, in a category where other mint choc chips had to settle for Bronze, ours got Gold. We'll let that speak for itself.
Why We're Not Green (And Why That Matters)

Here's the thing about our Mint Choc Chip: it doesn't look like everyone else's. There's no lurid, traffic-light green. No artificial colouring. And yes — we know this occasionally causes howls of dismay from younger customers who've grown up expecting something that looks like it belongs in a cartoon.
So consider this our definitive answer to the green bogeyman.
Real mint isn't neon green. If you've ever looked at an actual mint leaf, it's a gentle, muted green — nothing like the colour you'll find in most commercial mint ice cream. The peppermint oil that gives our gelato its flavour is essentially clear. We source it from Summerdown Mint's fields in Hampshire: pure, unadulterated, and utterly delicious. No colouring required.

Those bright dyes have a history. The green mint ice cream thing started as a mid-20th century marketing trick — a way to make a product look more "minty" than it actually was. It worked. It stuck. And now generations of people associate an artificial colour with a natural flavour. We think that's a little backwards.
Colour affects how we taste. When you see that vivid green, your brain prepares for an aggressive, synthetic mint hit. Strip that expectation away, and you taste the real thing — a proper balance of fresh peppermint and chocolate, without your eyes doing the flavouring for you.
And the chocolate is something special too. Our mint choc chip isn't just about the mint. We use rich organic milk from a nearby farm, and a stracciatella of Belgian chocolate — those signature ribbons that run through every scoop. Proper craft, not a gimmick.

So What Are We Saying?
We're saying that green food colouring for mint ice cream belongs alongside cheese spread in a toothpaste tube — a relic of industrial food production that deserves to stay in the past.
The judges at the Farm Shop & Deli Show Awards agreed.
Gold — for the white stuff.
